Technical Services
The Technical Services Program provides technical review and support of various initiatives that include:
- Sanitary Surveys of public water systems and water bottling facilities;
- Design and compliance assistance of piggeries,
- Mapping, modeling and analysis of environmental data,
- Review and approval of engineering designs, environmental assessments and project proposals in support of the Project Notification and Review System (PNRS) and other AS-EPA programs,
- Review of site remediation plans, oversight of environmental response actions, and identification of potential brownfields,
- Oversight of waste water treatment and disposal systems, including facilities permitted under the National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES),
- Review and implementation of storm water management plans and best management practices for erosion and sediment control,
- Issuance of Water Quality Certifications under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act (CWA), and
- Coordination with federal partners such as USEPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
Long Term Goal:
Enhance the technical capacity of AS-EPA programs with an emphasis on:
- Accurately assessing situations in the field,
- Analyzing data and documenting findings,
- Preparing technical reports and memoranda,
- Training and assisting AS-EPA staff, and
- Developing guidance to help the regulated community comply with environmental regulations.
